Being part of the many freelance/ unemployed people of the U.S.A, luxuries like facials, mani/pedi’s and massages are no longer affordable indulgences. With this, comes the need to make the above things into something more fun, like the “at home spa day” rather than the “omg I have to do all of this myself, how am I ever going to stay pretty day…”
One of the many things we feel are important beauty wise, is taking care of our skin. Hey, it’s the face, you wanna make sure it’s glowing when you can. It is the first thing people see, after all.
So with all of this came the research to find face masks that we would make at home–ones that we will actually put on our skin.
First up, a face mask with honey. Yup, you read that correctly, people put honey on their faces which “has natural antibiotic properties which draws out imperfections and impurities from the skin,” according to Jaclyn from Food + Words. She also mentions that if you use a local honey, it can help decrease allergy or hay fever symptoms you experience during the allergy season in your area. We love her moisturizing orange face mask, which is all natural and edible too (if you feel like giving it a taste!)
Since we love coconut oil, we had to add a mask that includes it. We’re no expert on the topic, but we’d probably suggest going this route if you have drier skin. There is oil in this, after all. Try a brown sugar and coconut oil mask, but be gentle as it leans towards the exfoliant side because of the grainy sugar.
Continuing down the food on your face route, did you know egg whites are a great face mask? They contribute to tighter skin and are a great way to remove blackheads. You literally just take egg whites, and paint them onto your face. Leave for 20 minutes, then rinse with warm water.
Have you ever made a beauty mask or DIY’d other products you’d normally purchase?
