A FABULOUSLY FEMINIST art show is unfolding in L.A., celebrating — and cherishing — our cherries.
The Junior High gallery on Hollywood Blvd. will be hosting “Eat Me: A Cunnilingus Themed Art Show,” a yummy art exhibit entirely devoted to eating at The Y. From the Junior High calendar: “As the title not-so-subtly suggests, this will be an art show centered on female sexual pleasure. Particularly, via cunnilingus. Through a combination of personal pieces by the curators as well as artist submissions, clitoral stimulation will be discussed, displayed, and demanded.” Delicious.
Curated by Alison Stevenson and Elizabeth Vazquez and spread over two days this weekend, this tongue-in-cheek collection of c*nt-centric arts and crafts hopes to bring enlightenment to the idea that, “…in the realm of casual sex, cunnilingus is not a privilege. It’s a right. ‘Eat Me’ aims to further the change in discourse around female pleasure and will do it with a special blend of sincerity and camp.”
Vice columnist and co-curator Stevenson explained: “The default setting for heterosexual sex ensures men get their fantasies fulfilled, while women are in charge of the fulfilling. This is especially true for casual sex: If a man goes out of his way to make sure his partner comes, he is considered an exceptional lover. For a woman to make sure her partner comes is considered standard.”
Stevenson and Vazquez also want to take down another popular misconception concerning feminism and feminist art, namely that neither have a sense of humor. There is obviously an element of fun to “Eat Me,” which will also incorporate comedy in the form of video installations and other works. Opening night will feature a live comedy show with a line-up of all lady comedians, featuring Caitlin Gill, Megan Koester, Alison Stevenson, Clare O’Kane, and Jenny Yang.

The exhibit will spotlight contributing artists Frances Canon, Kate Klingbeil, Penelope Gazin, Sashiko Yuen (Wishcandy), Carly Jean Andrews, Luisa Rodriguez, Fahren Feingold, Meghan Quinn, Clever Girl Maritza Lugo, and more.
Opening night festivities begin on Saturday, August 20, at 7pm. Live comedy kicks off at 8pm, and the attendees can peruse pussy art in the gallery until 11 pm.
On Sunday, the gallery opens at 10am — perfect for a peek at the munch before or after brunch — and stays open for devouring all day until 5pm, with a closing reception from 5 to 7pm.
