Available in a gorgeous Matte Shine-Free Finish or Dewy fresh glow,” NYXCosmetics.com reads. The matte spray has a shiny black bottle with the matte black label, a nice visual representation of what the product does, while the dewy spray has a fresh white label, kissed with dew drop graphics. The instructions to shake, spray and set, are simple enough “Shake the bottle and spray onto your face from a 6 inch distance. The spray will then set your makeup resisting unwanted color fade.”
I ordered the Dewy finish on accident first, and it will lock in your makeup look but it’s definitely a no-no for oily ladies. The Dewy spray did create pretty and sort of glossy, fresh finish at first, but while I felt like the edges of where I spritzed had looked pinched by the end of the day, my complexion was way too waxy-looking after some wear.
Once the Matte arrived, I could definitely tell fairly drastic difference between the two since I actually had them side-by-side to test and compare. The Matte also does a nice job of holding my makeup together, but I’m trying to learn the best order of application to give it the most oomph. I typically apply Smashbox Photofinish Primer with Blemish Control first, then Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation, then a dusting of Faerie Organics mineral powder. I’ve tried spritzing before the powder and was happy with the result, but never wow’ed. I’m hoping maybe finding the perfect placement of spray in my routine will bring it to its full potential, because so far I’m content with its performance but not impressed.
