The annual Costume Institute gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art is the veritable who’s who amongst the fashion elite. An invite is coveted, approval its chairwoman Ms. Wintour even more so. Who is attending, what they are wearing–it all stays under wraps for months.
This year’s Met Ball, celebrating the opening of the exhibition “Punk: Chaos to Couture,” is co-hosted by Anna Wintour along with Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci. According to the NY Times, many are at a loss as what to wear. Decades’ owner Cameron Silver told Eric Wilson, ““We keep running into the same problem, which is that rich women don’t want to look punk, or grunge.’” Oh, rich ladies.
Seriously, how will Anna Wintour do punk? We’d personally love to see her in an Uncle Karl Milan Fashion Week style faux-hawk. DO. IT. ANNA. Just once.
The carpet is said to have no less than four live streams, which means everyone will be watching. And just who will they be watching? The museum will not confirm who is set to attend Monday night’s fete, but here is a running guesstimate courtesy of the Post, the NY Times, and WWD.
Let’s start with the most absurd:
Samsung is taking Psy. Gangnam goes punk.
Michael Kors is taking Jennifer Lopez.
Valentino is taking Gwyneth Paltrow and her 70’s accoutrements.
Dior is taking Jennifer Lawrence and Marion Cotillard.
Alexander Wang is taking Julianne Moore for Balenciaga.
Tommy Hilfiger is taking Debbie Harry and Nicki Minaj. We have a feeling they will have no trouble.
The Mulleavy sisters of Rodarte are taking Elle and Dakota Fanning. Sister, sister!
Joseph Altuzarra is taking Allison Williams of Girls fame.
Tory Burch is taking Jessica Alba.
Burberry is taking their rumored new face Sienna Miller.
Topshop is taking Jamie King and Julianne Hough.
Humberto Leon and Carol Lim of Kenzo are taking Solange Knowles. Yes!
Diane von Furstenberg is taking Kate Upton.
And of course, the leading love of the Met Ball carpet, Ms. Bündchen is said to be trying on an Anthony Vaccarello.
Well, well. ‘Till Monday. — Arianna Schioldager
