THE WORD “NUDE” means “skin-colored,” at least when it comes to fashion.
Even though we all know that there are countless shades of skin color, the truth is that it has traditionally referred to just one particular skin color. One pretty average, white skin color. Now, a variety of companies are embracing the fact that nude is not a one-size-fits-all classification, and are creating a whole spectrum of “nude” tones that can work for other skin tones as well. (Why exactly has this taken so long, though?)
Nudevotion is one such company, selling everything from lingerie to purses in different skin-colored tones. The items are pulled from preexisting companies of every price point — from ASOS and Aldo to Tom Ford and Saint Laurent. They offer a search filter option for “dark nude,” making it a one-stop shop for people tired of searching high and low for their own personal “nude” bra and panty set.
Nubian Skin is a company that focuses specifically on undergarments for darker skin tones, including extreme basics and the more lacy variety. You can shop by skin tone, which include Berry, Cinnamon, Caramel, and Café Au Lait.
Perhaps one of the largest companies to hop on the trend is Christian Louboutin. They released their first nude shoe collection in 2013, and now offer the multicolored New Nudes Collection at Bergdorf Goodman. The collection features popular preexisting styles, but in five very different shades. Two more shades are expected to be released in the near future. Good news, ladies, because everyone deserves to experienced the leg-lengthening look of a nude pump if they so desire to.
