It’s berry season, ya’ll! Which you should be pretty excited about because berries are some of the lowest sugar content of all fruits, which means you can eat a decent amount of them and not worry about it too much!
Recently, we had some blood work done and realized that perhaps lowering our sugar intake would be a good idea. While we still enjoy making some booze filled cupcakes, we are trying to be more aware of how much sugar we are taking in each day.
Which is why we are thrilled that berries are at their most delicious right now, and want to share some of the recipes we plan to make that include this wonderful treat.
First up, our smoothie addiction. Berry smoothies are some of the easiest to make, and will satisfy any sweet tooth you may have. Throw in a cup of berries, a cup of almond milk, a scoop of vegan protein powder, some ice, and mix it all together.
This oatmeal berry crumble looks wonderful. We’d sub out the butter with earth butter, and perhaps instead of brown sugar we’d use some honey!
Melons are also low in sugar, so why not try this lovely avocado, strawberry and melon salad.
How about some blueberry frozen yogurt? This simple recipe can be made at home. We’d try subbing the yogurt with coconut milk, but that’s just us!
An easy syrup to add to ice cream, or over a black bean brownie is a simple strawberry sauce. Just take strawberries, blend them with a little bit of honey, some water to thin it out if needed, and voila! You’re done!
There is nothing quite like the beautiful colors and the sweet taste of a bowl full of berries. We can’t wait to hit our farmers market this weekend to stock up!
What berry recipes have you tried, or plan to try this season?
