Dorm rooms can be difficult to dress up when a lot of things on the market are geared towards those who love hot pink and zebra stripes. While there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with that taste, sometimes you want to class things up a bit and bring in a chic vibe to your new digs.
Since it may be your first time living without your parents, you want to bring in your unique style while still keeping that comfy, warm feeling of home in your new space.
Here are some ideas:
1) Chevron Curtains – Chevron is super in right now, and we don’t anticipate it going away anytime soon. Picking up some curtains in this popular zig-zag pattern is a great way to add a huge statement to your window treatment, or a cool way to add a door to that closet that may be missing one. Go with a grey/white pattern to keep it neutral. We will bring in color in other areas, don’t worry.
2) Bedding – Keep the sheets a solid color, and add in some accent pillows to make it pop. Stick with the grey/white theme with the bedding itself, and get crazy with extra pillows by either adding in a pop of color (turquoise, yellow, or even a neon green would look awesome) or a cool texture/fabric that stands out.
3) Lighting – Believe it or not, there are actually desk lamps that look like chandeliers that we think would look awesome in a dorm room. Target has some great options that won’t completely break the bank.
4) Bathroom Accessories – It may not be the first place people see when they arrive, but having some chic bathroom accessories is also super important. If you are in a dorm with a communal shower down the hall, why not store your things in this cute owl shower catty. You can hang it up while you’re rinsing off, and hang it on a nail on your closet when it’s not being used. If you have a private bath to call your own, we adore this color blocked toothbrush holder.
5) The Extras – Bringing in some cool artwork, rugs, and picture frames can help tie everything together. It’s also a great way to add color to the neutral palette we’ve been working with.
