Another weekend, another loud bar. Or not? While bumpin’ clubs and cozy, dark dives can certainly be a blast, it’s always fun to escape the long lines, overpriced cocktails, and surly bartenders for a night or two. Check out this round-up of fun alternatives for an unforgettable girls’ night out (or in).
Paint Night
These so-called “paint parties” have become a nationwide phenomenon, allowing people of all ages channel their inner Picasso as they create a watercolor with the help of an artistic instructor. Gather up your girls and prep your palette to make a one-of-a-kind masterpiece that you can take home with you. As a bonus, while you might not be at the bar, most of these events offer a selection of wine, beer, or cocktails that will help get the creative juices flowing.
First Friday and Second Saturday Events
You definitely don’t need a paintbrush and easel to indulge your artsy side; just do a quick Google search of museums in your area. Odds are, at least one of them hosts an on-site happy hour at the beginning of each month where you can meet and mingle with other culture vultures while admiring the exhibits and sampling wine. Another trend is Second Saturdays, an art walk that opens up neighborhood galleries and studios to the public and offers refreshments and snacks, too. Not only will you get to chat with the fascinating artists on hand, but you might even find some great new decor for your abode.
Dance Class (Pole not required)
If you thought that dance classes were restricted to eight year-olds in pink leotards and tutus (or bachelorettes trying to perfect a silly striptease), think again. As it turns out, there are plenty of studios that not only offer classes for adults, but specialize in them. And no, I don’t mean Jazzercise, though it can be a ton of fun. You don’t need much experience–or any at all–to drop in for a night and learn some fun choreography. Find your groove with an hour-long hip-hop, tap, Zumba, or even belly-dancing session, and shake it like no one’s watching. When you head back to your favorite haunt next weekend, you’ll totally have some sweet new moves to show off.
Pinterest Party
Not really in the mood to get dolled up and head out on the town? Have a good old-fashioned slumber party that’s centered around all of those projects you’ve pinned but haven’t actually had the chance to tackle yet. Join forces to whip up a repin-worthy meal (pulled pork pizza, anyone?) and then get to work. I’m talking nail and string art, wine bottle lights, DIY corkboard maps … whatever your heart desires. Don’t forget about those bucket list boards of yours, either. Gain inspiration and motivation by sharing your goals out loud, and start planning your next girls’ getaway to a dream destination!
