Boring LBDs aside, ’tis the season to be jolly. The awesome thing about December: Your social calendar is automatically filled with holiday parties, good food, company, and cheer. There aren’t too many times of the year that come attached with dressy parties. Except for maybe the row of weddings that seem to stack on top of each other in the spring and summer.
Holiday parties are a special breed. This is a guest’s chance to shine – totally taboo at weddings when you’re not the bride. And they’re really the only time of the year when it’s appropriate to wear sequins so shiny and sparkly you look like a bike reflector.
This year, go big or go home with a dress (or no dress at all) you’ve never tried before. Your new found boldness will mark the start of a happy new year.
The Jumpsuit
Do it. Wear the elegant jumpsuit. Throw on a glam belt and sky-high stilettos to make your legs look extra long. You’ll stand out from the pack and leave everyone else wishing their cold legs were covered, too.
The Backless Dress
Backless dresses require a certain amount of bravado. Not only are your backbones and spine naked to the world, but there’s no way you can wear a regular bra. Luckily, there are rather convenient, nude-colored pasties and other inventions to protect your chest. But once you’ve secured all the goods in place, you can proudly display a flirty backside not many others would be courageous enough to show.
The Iridescent Rainbow Dress
Instead of sequins, try wearing an iridescent dress. Bright violet and indigo hues will catch the light in different tones when you dance the night away.
