No Pain, No Gain: BDSM Workouts Are a Thing Now

WORKOUT been a snooze fest lately? Wish you could inject some of Christian Grey’s spicy antics into your gym routine and not just what goes on in your bedroom? Well, E.L. James fans, you’re totally in luck. One enterprising woman in Los Angeles has created a BDSM-style fitness class, and people are actually going to it. Why aren’t we surprised?

Snow Mercy (please, God, let that be the name on her birth certificate) is the mastermind taking “no pain, no gain” to a whole new level, and caters her services to a Los Angeles clientele — one that would apparently prefer to get their fitness rewards from something a little, shall we say, (f)riskier than your run-of-the-mill spinning class. We’re thinking it has to be something similar to boot camp: people yelling obscenities and demeaning you while you try your hardest to do a push-up. Except you trade the army fatigues for leather chaps.

Apparently, Mercy has been into the BDSM lifestyle for about 11 ½ years, so we think it’s safe to say that she’s seen it all (and if not all, at least most), although she does mention that the lifestyle has gained more attention and interest in the years that Fifty Shades has been a cultural phenomenon. Her unique fitness classes, which she claims burn anywhere from 300-500 calories, offer people the opportunity to do anything — from hiking while wearing a collar to getting whipped while doing windmills — as long as it gets the blood pumping. To which parts? Well… you’ll have to use your imagination to answer that question.

Just kidding. Contrary to what we might expect at first blush when we hear “BDSM” and “exercise,” not all of Mercy’s clients are looking to get a sexual thrill while they break a sweat; many of them are simply there to get some motivation — a (literal?) swift kick in the ass to get into shape.”There are the people that want to exercise while wearing a leather g-string and maybe have clothespins on their nipples, and then there are people who just want to be motivated to do pushups or sit-ups,” Mercy says. “When they get down to the floor, they kiss my boots.” Of course. You have to keep it authentic, right?

In general, the classes are mixed between men and women and range in size from one-on-ones with Mercy to classes geared towards up to six people. These classes — which, we should point out, are for entertainment purposes only, since Mercy is technically not a licensed trainer as of the date this story is being covered — have proven popular enough that Mercy is going to be extending her teachings to yoga classes, as well. One version will be her teaching her submissive yogis how to be better “subs” through yoga poses, and another version will be partner-work where students can take turns filling the dominatrix/dominator role as well. So if you’ve been a bad boy lately, you know what to expect when you get into that downward dog.

Certainly, BDSM workouts aren’t going to be for everyone. Hell, they probably won’t even be for the majority of people. Come to think of it, though, literally getting whipped into shape might not be the worst thing you can try when it comes to finding the motivation to exercise.
